Winter vs. Summer Wiper Blades

It is not uncommon for vehicle owners to use the same windshield wiper blades year-round. However, there are differences between blades designed for summer and the part created for winter. Summer blades feature a more flexible, light-weight frame. The frame has a lattice appearance and a spring-like action. The blade rubber is also thinner, which is appropriate for warm temperatures and rain.

Winter blade construction is more durable. The frame typically has a solid metal appearance, which is designed to capably stand up against the resistance met when pushing heavier ice and snow. The blade itself is manufactured using a combination of rubber, silicone and Teflon. In this way, the blade remains pliable and durable to last in extremely cold temperatures. The sturdier blade also lasts through continually having the tough job of removing solid precipitation.

Whether you need new windshield wiper blades or other parts for your vehicle, we have what you need at Doug Smith Kia.
